Good morning and happy extra hour day!
In celebration of a Sunday Summary falling on the first of the month, I am going to introduce you to the minimalism game. Most of you that know me personally know that I am a minimalist. I haven’t always been but just over a year ago, I gave away 80% of what I own and moved into a tiny and beautiful basement apartment underneath the massage school.
We minimized our footprint in the world, having our home and business all in the same tiny building. It was absolutely the best decision I have ever made and it was far easier than I thought. Back in my 20’s, I moved all the time. I was able to fit everything I owned in my car. I loved that! Now, although I still could not fit all my belongings in my car, I have certainly reduced my stuff!
If you are interested in decluttering your life, I recommend starting with the minimalism game. Start today! On the first of the month, you get rid of one item. On the second, two, on the third, three. You get the idea. By the end of the month, that is a lot of clutter gone!
Getting rid of things can be hard. This is a great website to help get started and help to re-think why we have THINGS. For me, it is still a work in progress but I do know that my life really changed, energetically, when I ditched most of my personal belongings. I felt lighter. Mentally and physically. My possessions were not weighing me down at all. I still have a long way to go because there are still things that are hard to give up. (Books! I love my books!)
Speaking of books, this is the BEST book on organizing your life: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Yes, the irony is not lost on me that you need to buy something to learn to buy less. But it is a tiny and worthwhile book and absolutely the best book I have read if you need a place to start the de-cluttering of your life.
If any of you do the minimalism game, I would love to hear about it.
