It is officially fall in North Central Washington. It rained a couple days this week which I loved because I am a Pluviophile (favorite word of the week).
Because of the rain I have also started the annual Cooking of the Soups (my own made up season that lasts from October until about March). This week I made a smoked salmon chowder that was loosely based on this recipe. The only differences in mine were 1) using whole milk instead of 1%, 2) using fresh corn cut off the ear and 3) adding at little nutmeg. I also used all organic ingredients which just taste better!
I ran into this new idea that I haven’t tried yet. It is called Zentangle. I haven’t tried it yet but if anyone has, I would love to hear about it. Meditation is hard for me but I try to do something quiet, away from technology and noise, everyday. Here is a great article about silence. Making time for silence everyday is incredibly beneficial.
However, I have monkey mind so sometimes silence isn’t my best friend. I have found a great assist! Check out Tara Brach. She has a series of guided mediations that really help stay focused for those times your mind wants to wander. She always lists how much time each meditation takes so it is easy to plan around.
Apparently relaxation and calm is on my mind this week because everything above seems to be themed that way this week. Right now I am going to start on this soup and while my onions are carmelizing start on a new book which you will hear about next week (if I loved it).
Take care and have a beautiful week.
